Environment Festival 2022 was attended by thousands of supporters of sustainable lifestyle
June 5, 2022
On 4 June, Chisinau hosted the 7th edition of the Environment Festival. The outdoor event took place in the Valea Morilor Park and gathered thousands of people.
The festival hosted an interactive exhibition with environment-friendly products, developed or imported by companies and institutions in our country. Solar collectors, pumps, samples of roads made of plastic, and compost equipment were displayed. The visitors learned how to measure the quality of water, radiation levels, how many solar panels they need to ensure that their households are energy-independent and how long it takes for waste to decompose in soil. All these activities were taking place with soothing vinyl music played in the background, lots of fun, and artisan food.
The children enjoyed themselves in a special area furnished with toys manufactured from eco-materials. Volunteer firefighters from Sireti village taught them how to put down a fire and provide first aid for children.
“Each of us can contribute to maintain the Earth green and suitable for life by simply adopting environment-friendly behavior. United Nations prioritizes climate action and environmental protection activities at the international level via the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In Moldova, with the support of our partners, UNDP is implementing complex projects and programmes on climate change, environment, energy efficiency and sustainable cities. We have Only One Earth, so let’s take care of it!”Andrea Cuzyova, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova
Other topics explored at the festival included the impact of expired medications on the environment, waste collection in Chisinau, as well as the increase in energy costs and the authorities’ response to tackling the energy crisis.
To mark the end of the annual festival, SunSay fusion-funk-reggae music band from Ukraine played for the crowd.
The first international meeting to address environmental problems took place in Stockholm 50 years ago – the UN Conference on the Human Environment – and the slogan of World Environment Day stayed the same – Only One Earth.
The festival organized to mark the World Environment Day was organized by the Association of Environment Journalists with the support of the UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme, Sweden, European Union, World Health Organization, Ministry of Environment, as well as the environment community – environment organizations, activists, and green businesses.
